Once Upon A Festival
Students were privileged to participate in the Once Upon A Festival in Term 4. This event saw many local authors and illustrators run face to face workshops and presentations with students and also many interstate authors lead Zoom sessions. Students were highly engaged and entertained and learnt many of the author’s secrets about how to be an exceptional writer!
A highlight of the festival was the ‘What Do You Do With An Idea?’ performance that students from Year 1-6 attended. 22 students from Year 5 and 6 sang classical music with the Immanuel College Vox Pop Choir, a Year 10 dancer, a Year 9 narrator and members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra to bring the book to life.
Our students worked very hard to learn all lyrics and music for the performance and experienced magic on stage performing with professional musicians of the highest calibre. The work has been performed once in the Adelaide Town Hall, and again in London. We enjoyed listening to a special video message from the author Kobi Yamada from his home in Seattle, United States.
This was the first time ever that ‘What Do You Do With An Idea?’ was performed in a school for school children, who seemed delighted to be showered in gold glitter during the finale.
