As a result of extensive research to find a curriculum framework which would best meet the needs of students at Immanuel Primary School, at the beginning of 2002 the school commenced implementation of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.
In October 2004 the school received authorisation by the International Baccalaureate Organisation as an IB World School. In 2008 and 2013 the school also went through a very successful evaluation process where the community were involved in a self study and a school visit.
The IB mission statement encapsulates what we believe at Immanuel Primary School.
The Primary Years Program (PYP) is designed for students between the ages of 3 and 12 years. It is an international, transdisciplinary program designed to foster the development of the whole child, not just in the classroom but also through other means of learning. The PYP focuses on the total growth of the developing child, touching hearts as well as minds. It encompasses social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic welfare.
The PYP combines the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant and engaging educational framework for all children.
All authorised schools are revisited and their programs are evaluated three years after the date of authorisation to offer the PYP, and every five years thereafter.
Schools may request additional consultative visits at any time in the five-year cycle. This service is designed to review the effectiveness of the delivery of the Primary Years Program at the school.
The International Baccalaureate selected evaluation team consists of knowledgeable professionals familiar with the program in the school.
